If you every want a good laugh......

if you ever want to have a good laugh.... come to Mercy Ships and dance on the dock with several hundred other people as they learn barn dancing. You can dance or just watch but it is hilarious. My roomate Amy was the "caller" and gave instructions and demonstrated the dances. It was rather interesting to be a part of but I had the most fun taking pictures. This weekend we are stuck on ship or right off the ship on the dock, but we can't go into town or travel at all. Yesterday was the presidential election here in Togo and it has in the past been violent so we are keeping close to the ship until we make sure all is peaceful. However, this means we have to entertain ourselves all weekend and thus... a barn dance. Who knows what Saturday will bring :)
This week was very long. It was busy and every afternoon I fell into bed for a little nap. We had to admit extra patients for the whole week on Wednesday so I stayed in admissions to draw blood. There were 9 children that day, and by the end of the day when I walked out of the admissions door all the children hid and cried out just seeing me. It was universal unpopularity. I don't really take it personally and actually it kind of makes me laugh. The adults atleast understand why I draw blood and they are glad to chat with me (of course with a translator)
The patient that I told you about last post that has the large facial tumor is recovering nicely. He spent one night in the ICU, and was extubated (breathing tube removed) the next morning. He is now in the regular ward and doing very very well. The crew are all excited about donating blood and we have had many people the last two days giving blood samples so they can be screened to be a donor.
In the next few weeks there will be other opportunities to help in Togo. The orphanage days, work teams, and other things are being planned and I'm looking forward to all of them. Expecially the orphanage since I can play and have fun and the kids don't think I'm mean!
More later this weekend. Thanks for reading.
